Raymond P. Young Jr., 70 a resident of Wardsboro passed away peacefully on Thursday April 27, 2017 at the Vermont Veterans Home following an extended illness. The son of Raymond P. and Lois S. (Reynolds) Young Sr., he was born in Brattleboro on May 13, 1946. Ray graduated from Leland and Gray Seminary, Class of 1964. Soon after graduation he entered the U.S. Army where he served in Vietnam during the war. Following his return from the military, he married Nancy L. Parsons in Wardsboro on September 13, 1969. Ray worked for many years as a building material salesman at D J Inc, and WW Building Supply. He was a member of the V.F.W. in Brattleboro and American Legion Post 16 in Townshend, in addition he was a longtime member of the Wardsboro Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was also an avid reader. He leaves his wife Nancy Young of Wardsboro, son Nolan L. Young and wife Andrea of Barre, daughter Carley R. Sanderson and husband Brud of West Townshend, brother Arnold Young of Jamaica, sisters Judith Young and Constance Bentley both of Wardsboro, and brother Peter Young of Wardsboro, grandchildren Clayton, Jarien and Raena Sanderson. He was predeceased by brothers Jerald and Robert Young. Services with military honors will be private, burial will take place in the South Wardsboro Cemetery at a later date. Memorial gifts in his memory may be made to The Vermont Veterans Home-Patient Activity Fund in care of Covey Allen & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363.
