Richard Henry Kulmane passed from this life into the waiting arms of Jesus on the morning of October 6, 2022 at his home in Sandgate, Vermont. He was 79 years old. He was predeceased by Martha, his wife of 52 years, and his oldest daughter Carole Sinclair Smith. Richard was born in New Jersey and graduated from Springfield Regional High School, where he participated in a work/study program. Upon graduation, he joined the army and was stationed in Vietnam. His service included radio dispatch, which was perfect for him since he loved to tinker with electronics and communication. The tinkering with electronics became a lifelong hobby. He was the one everyone relied on to help get their tv to work; and he would put together stereo systems to entertain us all at the pool and Sauna. Richard met his wife, Martha on a blind date and they married just before he went into the service. When he was discharged, they moved to Sandgate and built a home on property adjacent to his parents, Hilda and Henry Kulmane. Richard worked for Johnson Controls in Bennington for 25 years as a battery technician/inspector. After Johnson Controls moved out of the area, Richard worked at the Equinox Hotel in Manchester. He also had a small business doing carpet steam cleaning. Richard liked to keep busy, working on projects around the house, Sauna and pool. His tractor was his prize but his Family, especially the grandchildren, were his absolute joy. The pool was a favorite hangout for all. Every Friday night was “Smack Down”, an evening mainly for the guys, watching wrestling and eating homemade pizza. Or a visit from his granddaughter to talk about cats, especially his favorite – Mouse-Mouse. Richard H. Kulmane is survived by his children: Richard Kulmane (Ricky), Christine Thorne of Hebron NY; Robert Kulmane (Bobby) of Rupert VT; Katherine Ritchie (Katie) and Charles Ritchie (Chuck), grandchildren Charles (Charlie) and Kyren Ritchie of Aberdeen NJ; Annemarie Peters (Annie) and Robert Peters, grandchildren Grayson and Eleanor (Ellie) Peters of Sandgate, VT. Richard is also survived by his brother Kenneth Kulmane, sister-in-law Elaine Kulmane; and his sister Karen Kulmane Dzialo. There will be a graveside service on Wednesday, October 12, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sandgate Cemetery. All are welcome to participate. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Second Chance Animal Shelter in Arlington, VT or Wounded Warriors would be welcomed c/o Hanson Walbridge & Shea Arlington Chapel PO Box 528 Arlington, VT 05250.
