Rita M Prouty

Rita M. Prouty, 73, a resident of Vail, Road, passed away July 5, 2024 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. A lifelong resident, Rita was born in Bennington on September 2, 1950 the daughter of the late Clyde and Alice Hathaway Sherman. She attended Bennington schools, graduating from Mt. Anthony Union High School. Rita loved taking care of children and provided day care for many children and families for several years. Rita enjoyed bird watching and feeding birds, loved camping with her children, crafts, was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed listening to country music, watching the World Series no matter who was playing and cherished times spent with her family. Rita is survived by her husband Thomas C. Prouty, Sr. of Bennington whom she married in Bennington on May 6, 1972, children Thomas C. Prouty, Jr (Alicia) of Shaftsbury Hollow, Alice Prouty of Bennington and Benjamin Prouty also of Bennington, brothers Clyde Sherman and Carl Sherman (Sandy) both of Bennington, sisters Hazel Harris (Bill) of Hoosick Falls and Lynn Goff of North Carolina and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. At the request of the family there are no formal funeral services.
