Robert Theodore Brace Sr., 84 a resident of South Road in Sunderland passed away unexpectedly on Friday September 22, 2017 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation where he was a resident for the past few months. One of two sons born to Oscar T. and Evelyn (McDermott) Brace, he was born at home in Arlington on July 31, 1933. He grew up in Sunderland where he attended the local schoolhouse. Bob was a veteran of the US Army where he trained in heavy equipment and tank operations. Following his discharge , he served with the Vermont Army National Guard. He married the former Janice Baker in Sunderland in 1956. He had worked in the construction industry for many year as a mason and plumber for Roy McDermott and Herb Stratton. He later worked at Schmeltzer and NSK both in Bennington. Bob was a member of American Legion Post 69 in Arlington for more than 50 years, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bob leaves his wife Janice of 61 years, sons Robert Brace Jr. and wife Lori and Aaron Brace and wife Sue all of Sunderland, daughter Dorothy Conklin and partner Michael Thomas of Granville, NY, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother John Delaney.
