Roger F. Webster 74, was peacefully called into the arms of Jesus on Sunday March 5, 2017 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief battle with brain cancer, his family at his side. A resident of Sycamoore Lane, Roger was born April 5,1942 at Gotham Hospital in Manhattan, NY, he was the son of Frank and Margaret (Muniz) Webster. Roger graduated from Northport High School on Long Island in 1960. He attended Paul Smith's College for Forestry and joined the Navy in 1961. He was honorably discharged in 1965 as a Seabees Construction Electrician/E4. He began his 53-year telecommunications career as a Lineman for NY Telephone in 1965 retiring in 1995 from NYNEX as an engineer and right of way agent. He continued his career contracting and was currently working for Byers Engineering. Roger completed his Associates Degree from CCV in 1985 and his Bachelor's Degree from Johnson State College in 1987 graduating with honors. He wrote a fiction novel currently housed in the Russell Collection at Martha Canfield Library to complete his Masters of Vermont History from Vermont College of Norwich University in 1989. Roger volunteered for 10 years on the Arlington Fire Department. He was a member of the Freemasons, the Eagles, American Legion and the VFW. He and his wife attended the White Creek Baptist Church. As well he often served as supply pastor for the Methodist Church in Sandgate. Over the years he served on multiple non-profit boards including CareNet Pregnancy Center. Roger moved to Vermont where he met and married Wanda Johnston on March 11, 1972 in Manchester. Roger will join his parents Frank and Margaret Webster, his sister Margaret "Peggy" Webster, brother in law Donald Webster and granddaughter Ava Webster in heaven. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Wanda Johnston Webster of West Arlington. Their three children John H. Webster of Mitchell, SD, Tammy W. Collins and her husband Kevin Collins of Manchester and Angela S. Webster of West Arlington. Eight grandchildren, Zachary Zoufaly, Joel Zoufaly, Alexandra Webster, Josiah Roger Webster, Hannah Webster, Micah "Sam" Webster, Jeremiah Webster, and Maia Webster, a great granddaughter, Journey Jade Garcia. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. His dear friends William and Phyllis Skidmore of Sandgate and his beloved cat Sadie.As per Roger's wishes there are no formal services, however the family invites you to join them at an informal celebration of his life at American Legion Post 69 in Arlington on Sunday March 12 from 1-4pm where everyone can enjoy refreshments and stories of Roger. He will be privately laid to rest in the family lot in West Arlington Cemetery.In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to SVMC Cancer Center-Patient Fund in care of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250. As per Roger's wishes there are no formal services, however the family invites you to join them at an informal celebration of his life at American Legion Post 69 in Arlington on Sunday March 12 from 1-4pm where everyone can enjoy refreshments and stories of Roger. He will be privately laid to rest in the family lot in West Arlington Cemetery.
