Rose Marie Churchill passed away on June 24, 2020 while residing at Crescent Manor Rehabilitation in Bennington, VT. She was born Rose Marie Barney on January 7, 1948 to Harold and Eileen. She graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, CT in 1966 and soon moved to Vermont, where she lived out the rest of her life. Rose had several jobs over the years she spent in Pownal and Bennington. A natural caretaker, Rose had a daycare in her home where she watched over the neighborhood children. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant and had jobs at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation and at Crescent Manor (where she was able to work alongside her daughter, Wendy). Rose also worked at Stanley Tools, as well as the Jaeger House Restaurant and Village Market in Pownal, VT. Rose made many friends at all of her jobs, and she was always happy to hear “Hi, Rose!” when she crossed paths with an old co-worker. Rose married William Churchill in 1983, and they remained dedicated to each other, even in the face of several health issues. Rose is survived by her husband William, her son Scott Chaffee and his partner Lisa (Springfield, MA), her daughter Wendy Karhan and her husband Mark (North Bennington, VT), and her daughter Victoria Churchill and her husband Allen (Buford, GA). She is also survived by her brother Doug Barney and his wife Colleen and her sister-in-law, Karen Barney . Rose was pre-deceased by her beloved brother Harold Barney, her brother Nelson Barney and her close friend Cathy Sorel. Rose was the proud grandmother (“Grammy”) to Meghan and Joshua Karhan. Rose is also survived by nephews and nieces, all of whom she loved. Rose had a creative, caring, and funny spirit. She enjoyed decorating her house, especially with anything that had a chicken on it. She enjoyed shopping for clothes and caramel iced lattes from Dunkin' Donuts. Above all, she loved spending time with her family. She will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. The family would like to thank all of those who took care of Rose in the final years of her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in Rose’s name to the Anthony Bleyer MD Kidney Research Fund for rare inherited kidney disease c/o Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home PO Box 957 Bennington, VT 05201
