Ruby L. (O'Leary) Mattison, 87 a resident of Old Depot Road died Wednesday afternoon, February 17, 2016 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Ruby was born in Saxtons River on May 9, 1928, she was the daughter of William E. and Rose E. (Tenney) Leary. She received her education in Manchester where she graduated from Burr and Burton Seminary.Ruby was married on August 12, 1950 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Manchester to Philip A. Mattison, he died May 8, 1986.She had worked for the Manchester Telephone Company as a switchboard operator for 15 years, at Mack Molding Company as a payroll clerk and in customer service at the Orvis Company and the Vermont Country Store until she retired at the age of 77. Ruby was raised on the Hayes Farm where she learned hard work and the love of family.Ruby was active all of her life. She loved to travel with trips to Maine and California and many other destinations with family and friends.Ruby's energy, smile and love of family and life will be greatly missed. She leaves her two sons, Arthur P. Mattison and Melissa West of Shaftsbury and Bruce W. Mattison and his companion Sue Cayer of Sunderland, two daughters, Deborah M. Maskiell of Shaftsbury and Andrea J. Mattison and John Haugsrud of Arlington. Three grandchildren, Travis Mattison, Rosie West and Michaela Mattison and 2 step grandchildren Matthew and Mindy Stone. Her brothers and sisters, Margaret Brooks of Manchester, William and Alice Leary of Milbrae, CA, Charlie O'Leary of Manchester and Robert and Tracy Leary of Ludlow, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers John Leary, Richard Leary and Francis O'Leary and a sister Rose Stoodley.The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 23rd at 11am from Christ Our Savior Church ( St. Paul's) in Manchester Center with Reverend Thomas Mattison officiating. Burial will follow in St. Columbans Cemetery in Arlington. There are no calling hours. Following the committal service at the cemetery, a reception will be held at the American Legion Hall in Arlington for a time of fellowship and refreshments. Memorial gifts may be made to the Arlington Rescue Squad or Shaftsbury Fire Department in care of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250.
