Rudolph Kugler

d. January 1, 2018

Rudolph William Kugler, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on January 1, 2018. He was born December 30, 1923, in Brooklyn Village, Ohio, his parents being Albert and Albertina Kugler. He was the youngest of seven children and was predeceased by his sisters Minnie, Olga, Frieda, Ruth, and Elsa and his brother Albert. He was a favorite uncle to his numerous nieces and nephews introducing them to many of the sports and activities that he enjoyed throughout his life such as fishing, tennis, hunting, swimming, and gardening. He participated in the World War 2's Navy V-12 College Training Program and graduated from Case Western Reserve and Columbia with a degree in chemical engineering at which time he was deployed as an Ensign to the aircraft carrier USS Boxer in the Pacific. Returning to Ohio he met and married Joan Prentice in 1949 and enjoyed 68 years of marital bliss, having three children, Dr. Larry Kugler, Elizabeth Kugler, and Rudi MacKugler (he married a Mack). Rudy enjoyed sharing his love for sports and the outdoors with his grandchildren Matthew, Lindsey, and Pierce Kugler and Cameron and Grahame MacKugler. Although he was not able this summer to attend, he reveled in the marriage of Cameron to Corrinne Rotter whom he wholeheartedly welcomed into the family. After working in corporate sales for Dow Chemical and Cary Chemical Corporations, Rudy worked on a joint endeavor with Exxon Chemical Corporation after which he moved from Rumson on the New Jersey shore to Vermont where he had been bringing the family on ski trips for a number of years. Settling in Winhall, Vt., Rudy started and marketed the Golden Triangle development of houses just off of Route 30 where he resided until his death. Rudy conveyed his love for sports and the outdoors to many people by running the Manchester Free Tennis Program, by teaching skiing at Bromley for 18 years, by being President of the Bromley Outing Club, by helping found the Silver Griffins Senior Ski Group, and by becoming PSIA certified and helping to start a ski program for the physically and cognitively impaired at Bromley which later grew into the Bart J. Ruggiere Adaptive Sports Center. In his many years of living in Winhall, Rudy "touched" many people in a positive way and will be missed by many. Notice of a service and a celebration of life will be announced in the future. In his memory, gifts may be made to the Bromley Outing Club, the Community Food Cupboard in Manchester, or to a charity of one's choice c/o Brewster-Shea Funeral Services, P.O.
