Ruth Moffitt Wilcox, 85 a resident of Spruce Lane passed away peacefully Sunday April 5, 2015 in the comfort of her home, she was surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of Aubrey O. and Gladys R. (Hover) Moffitt, she was born in Sunderland on February 16, 1930. Mrs. Wilcox attended one room schoolhouses in Sunderland and Arlington, she graduated from Arlington High School in 1949, she continued her education at Gifford School of Nursing graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1952. She used her nursing ability in many capacities including: the former Putnam Memorial Hospital , filled in as Town Nurse in Arlington and Sunderland, performing school physicals, senior citizen screenings, and organizing and staffing the well baby clinics. She provided private duty nursing to a multitude of friends, family and neighbors. Being very civic minded she was a member of the Federated Church of East Arlington, a regular volunteer at the Red Cross Blood drives and was a life long Girl Scout leader staying active until she was in her late 70's. As a Girl Scout leader she was active on the local and state level, she taught others to be leaders, took many camping trips with the girls in both summer and winter. She also served as camp nurse and director, she was very Patriotic and taught proper flag etiquette to the Girl Scouts and others. She married Gilbert E. Wilcox in Mansfield, NY on August 9, 1952, he passed on June 10, 2010. They had been active in the Arlington Fish and Game Club, teaching hunter safety courses, raising Pheasants to release in the wild and teaching others about wildlife and ecology, they both enjoyed hunting and fishing together. Ruth and Gib built their own home and were proud to be third and fourth generation residents of Bennington County. Mrs. Wilcox enjoyed the Home Dem Group (now FCE), crocheting, making crafts, geneology and bird watching. However she thoroughly enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and the many family occasions they shared, she once stated "I have had a wonderful life with no regrets".She leaves her daughters Donna McCray and Susan Welch and husband Donald all of Arlington, brothers Arthur Moffitt of Arlington and Charlie (Gloria) Moffitt of Sunderland, sisters Barbara Poulin of Cambridgeport, Vermont and Agnes (Walter) Brewer of Northfield, CT, grandchildren Joe (Bridget) McCray, Tanya (Wendell) Taylor, Ashley Welch, Adam Welch, Andrew (Lorianne) Welch, Brenda (Eddie) Shewell, Amber Welch and thirteen great grandchildren.She was predeceased by brothers Aubrey and Francis, sisters Mary Wilkinson and Gertrude Moffitt.Funeral services will be held on Friday April 10 at 11am at the Arlington Chapel of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home with Reverend Kathy Clark officiating. Burial will take place at later date in Ira Allen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in Thursday from 6-8pm. Memorial gifts may be made to the Arlington School District in care of Hanson Walbridge & Shea FH, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250. Funeral services will be held on Friday April 10 at 11am at the Arlington Chapel of Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home. Burial will take place at later date in Ira Allen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home in Thursday from 6-8pm.
