Ruth Skorupsky

Ruth Skorupsky of Wilmington, VT passed away peacefully at home in her sleep on August 20, 2022. She was 98 years old. A 30-year resident of Vermont, Ruth was well-loved in her small town. Born in 1923 and raised in the Wyoming, PA area, Ruth was involved with various clubs during her school years. She enjoyed music as young girl and once sang a duet with her sister Dorothy on a live radio program broadcast from Scranton, PA. She had many friends growing up and graduated from high school during World War II. She then moved to the state of New Jersey to begin work for the pharmaceutical firm, Johnson & Johnson. While employed there, she met her future husband, Paul. The couple were married for 70 years and raised three children in a small but loving home in the town of Edison, New Jersey. A hard worker who cared deeply about providing for her family, Ruth was also employed by the Bell Telephone Company and later worked in the front-office of a manufacturing facility of the Revlon Corporation. All her work efforts over many years helped put her two sons and daughter through college. Ruth retired in 1989 and moved shortly after with her husband to Vermont to live in a house which he built, with Ruth's help, over a ten-year period in the 1980s. The couple loved the peaceful, retirement lifestyle found near the beautiful Green Mountains of Vermont. During the 1960s, Ruth and her husband and children made many trips back to her home town in Pennsylvania to visit her mother Anna, sister Dorothy, brother Bernard, and her many nieces and nephews. She loved the annual trip at Easter time so that family members could be together on major holidays. As the children grew older, Ruth traveled extensively with her husband Paul, taking many vacations in both the USA and abroad. The list of destinations includes Ireland, Spain, Greece, Australia, Hawaii, Bermuda, and many Caribbean islands. She also traveled to the California coast for extended stays during some of the long Vermont winters. In her spare time, Ruth enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and also loved to read. She was a frequent visitor to the Wilmington Public Library. One of Ruth's favorite hobbies was sewing and knitting. She made numerous beautiful creations, including clothes, blankets, and decorative items, many of which she gave away as gifts. She always took the time to make a baby blanket for each newborn child in the family and also for children of friends. In addition, she briefly dabbled with pottery. Ruth was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots and watched many games over the years. Ruth valued her many friendships in the Wilmington area and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She was predeceased by her husband Paul and is survived by her three children, Gary, Gail, and Kenneth, her two grandchildren, Ryan and Stacey, and two great-grandchildren, Hudson and Hayden. She loved them all dearly and always looked forward to visiting family, which she did on many occasions. Ruth lived a wonderful life, full of adventure and travel, meeting many people and making many friends along the way. She cared deeply about family and always made sure they were well cared for. Her children shall miss her very much but she is now re-united with her husband and God in heaven. A private service is being held by the family.
