Shirley Anna Brown Adams, 90, formerly of Jacksonville, VT, passed away April 29, 2021 at Thompson House Nursing Home in Brattleboro. Shirley was born in Greenfield, MA on January 8, 1931 the daughter of the late Walter and Mina Hillman Brown. She was an Arms Academy graduate and attended Vermont Community College at the age of 58 where she studied writing in Brattleboro and had some of her work published. She worked for New England Telephone Company in Brattleboro, the Wilson Department Store in Greenfield and as an Auditor for the Town of Whitingham for 9 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, the Order of the Eastern Star Mayflower Chapter #19 now in Jamaica and Wilmington and Past Matron, District Deputy and Grand Chaplain. She was a 4-H leader for many years, taught sewing and was the leader of the Joyful Jackies. She enjoyed walking, reading and quilting and her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Shirley is survived by her children Nancy Adams Lentz and her husband Russell Lentz of Pace, FL, Jacqueline Adams-Howes and her husband Jason Howes of Jacksonville, VT and Cheryl Adams Crawford and her husband Roger Crawford of Wilmington, VT, grandchildren Julie, Frank, Abigail, Kristy and Matthew and her Great grandchildren Derek, Ryan, Rachel, Nicholas, Casey, Shayne, Ashlyn and Zachary. She was preceded in death by her husband James Adams, Jr, whom she married June 18, 1949 in Colrain, MA, grandson Benjamin Birch, sisters Barbara Bernard and Bernice Caron, brothers Gerald, Robert, Roger, Malcolm who died during WWII and Forrest Brown. Funeral services for Shirley will be held June 18, 2021 at 11am at the Jacksonville Community Church. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. There are no visiting hours.
