Shirley Ann Barton

Shirley Ann (Arabia) Barton, 89, a resident of Londonderry, Vermont passed away peacefully on Friday April 18th, 2025 surrounded by her family at the Gill Oddfellows Home in Ludlow, Vermont.

Shirley was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts on April 7th 1936. She was the daughter of the late Peter George Arabia and Marie Viola (Call) Arabia of Buckland/Franklin MA. She grew up on Bray Road and attended school at Arms Academy.

Shirley married Gordon Douglas Barton of Leyden, MA on September 18th 1954 and lived in Leyden, MA until 1966 when they moved the family to Londonderry, VT. Shirley and Gordon were married for 48 years until Gordon passed in 2012. Shirley and Gordon were blessed with six children, thirteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren.

Shirley immensely enjoyed playing horseshoes and cards with her family. She was an avid hunter, loved fishing and dancing often with her husband. Her pastimes were drawing and painting. Shirley also volunteered at the Thrifty Attic in Londonderry for many years and became very close with her volunteer family there.

Shirley leaves her daughter Bonnie Cobb and husband Daniel, of South Londonderry, her son Keith Barton, of Londonderry, son Gary Barton and wife Margaret, of Londonderry, daughter Dianne Ireland and husband Dan, of NH, and son Gordon Dana Barton and wife Leigh Anne of OK. Shirley also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Shirley was predeceased by her daughter Cheryl Ann (Barton) Casey in 2011, her husband Gordon Douglas Barton in 2012, sisters Betty Wagner, Margaret “Peggy” Coates, Helen Royer, and brother Richard Arabia.

Services for Shirley will be held at the convenience of her family and announced at a later date.
