Stephen Matthew Noonan, 67, passed away July 1, 2016 at his home in Stratton VT. Steve was born in Meriden, CT on April 7,1949 the son of the late Matthew and Alice (Flynn) Noonan. He graduated from Maloney High School in Meriden, CT and went on to earn a BS degree in History from SCSI). Steve played defensive lineman on both his high school and college football teams and went on to play semi-pro for the Meriden Shamrocks. Steve remained an avid fan of football and later played with cousins and friends on the Gaffs Sporting Goods team in the Meriden touch football league.Steve's love for sailing took him to the Wooden Boat School in Hamden, ME where he studied marine surveying. Continuing marine education classes at SUNY Maritime College and the New England Institute of Technology earned him his certification as a Marine Surveyor and he started his own business, East Coast Marine Services, in 1995.His interests were many, but his twin passions were the outdoors and spending time with his family and many friends. He was an accomplished sailor, hunter and fisherman; and he enjoyed hiking in the Green Mountains and Adirondacks with his faithful dog Lucy. His wanderlust took him to many far off locations, including Egypt, the Galapagos Islands, Alaska, the Amazon River, Machu Picchu and Hudson Bay.Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Coolidge, sister Mary Cortright (Ed), brothers Bernie Noonan (Brenda), Patrick Noonan (Denise Doyle) sister-in-law Christine Clocher (deceased brother Dan), Nephews Brendan & Justin Noonan, nieces Colleen Davis, Meghan Ferrara, Tara Noonan, Shannon Noonan, and several great nieces and nephews.At the request of the family, burial services will be private but family and friends of Steve are welcome to share in a celebration of his life on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Westbrook Elks Club, 142 Seaside Ave., Westbrook, CT 06498.If friends desire, memorial gifts in Stephen's memory may be made to "OJ.
