Susanna (Sue) J. Lawler, 90, of Dorset, Vermont passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 7, 2021 at Bromley Manor Senior Community. Sue was born in Brooklyn on October 2, 1930, the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Larkin) Edmonds. She grew up in the Adirondacks in Whitehall, New York, and graduated from Marywood College in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Sue lived a wonderful life. After graduating with a major in nutrition, she worked at T.V. Guide preparing food for print advertisements. She then went on to work for General Foods creating and perfecting recipes. She helped develop the recipe for German Chocolate cake, a favorite of her husband and children. Sue married the late John (Jack) Lawler and raised their three children in Larchmont, New York. As an accomplished painter and lithographer, she produced beautiful prints in her home studio. In 1979, Sue opened and ran the Condeso-Lawler Art Gallery in Chelsea and later Soho, New York City with her friend and partner Orlando Condeso. They exhibited contemporary art and ran a printmaking studio, producing prints for a number of famous artists including Philip Pearlstein whose collection is featured in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The gallery closed in 1996 after the death of her husband. Although widowed at a relatively young age, she never let that stop her and lived her life to the fullest. Sue eventually settled in Dorset, Vermont where she joined the local rug hooking community. She always got a big kick out of telling people she was a well-known hooker! She exhibited her intricately designed rugs in local and international shows. She had a passion for gourmet cooking and loved hosting parties for her friends and family. She loved the outdoors and had a spectacular garden of wildflowers and tall grasses surrounding her home. Sue was always involved in helping others and volunteered for Neighbor to Neighbor. Although in later years she developed dementia she never lost her spirit and enthusiasm for life. She is survived by her three children Lise Fry (Robert) of Milford, Connecticut, Megan Thörn (Bo) of Dorset, Vermont and James Lawler (Jessica) of Stamford, Connecticut, 9 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. A funeral will be held on Friday August 27, 2021, at Christ Our Savior Parish in Manchester Center at 11am. Interment will be held in Greenmount Cemetery in Whitehall, New York.
