Sylvia Stroup (Douglass) 70, of Manchester, VT and Hilton Head Island, SC passed away, surrounded by her family on September 7, 2017, after a long illness. She was born December 30, 1946 to George and Dora Douglass in Harrisburg, IL. Sylvia graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in home economics in 1968 and on the day she graduated, married her husband of 50 years, Stanley S. Stroup of DeKalb Illinois, who survives. She was a resident of Manchester, VT and Hilton Head Island, SC and previously had lived in Geneva, IL, San Francisco, CA and Long Lake, MN. When she was not spending time at home she enjoyed traveling and shopping the world. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, needlepointing, rug hooking, golfing and doting (at a world class level) on her nine grandchildren. She was also known to appreciate the music of Merle Haggard and a good party. She was a passionate gardener. During the summer months, friends, more likely than not, would find her with her hands dirty and the sun at her back planting, weeding, picking, watering and otherwise tending to her beloved and beautiful gardens at her home in Manchester, VT. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dora Douglass. Sylvia is survived by brother Gary (Mary) Douglass of Tyler, TX; sister Amelia Douglass of McLeansboro, IL; daughter Stacie (Matthew) Hunt of San Diego, CA; son Stephen (Joy) Stroup of Plymouth, MN, daughter Sarah (David) Leverenz of Northbrook, IL, and nine grandchildren.
