Tom R. Brass, 92, was reunited with his life long love Joy on October 30, 2023. Tom thoroughly enjoyed being an active part of his vibrant community in and around Dorset, VT after retiring there in 1997. Tom was born in Montclair, NJ on December 2, 1930, the youngest son of the late Edward K. and Eleanor (Berger) Brass. While in high school, Tom worked as a car mechanic at Harry Heardman’s auto repair shop across the railroad tracks from where he lived. He graduated from Montclair High School. He studied mechanical engineering at Cornell University. He was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He worked at Crucible Steel Mill in Harrison, NJ during the summer while he was in college. He met his future wife Joy on a blind date in 1956 when he was a student at Cornell and she was a student at Wells College. They fell madly in love and were married on June 29, 1957. Tom worked in international sales for many years for Worthington Corporation, Worthington-Turbodyne, and Measurement Systems, Inc. He enjoyed hiking, camping, skiing and traveling all over the world (for pleasure and for work). He loved cars and airplanes. He and Joy lived in many places: New Jersey, St. Louis, MO, Wichita, KS, Tulsa, OK, Cleveland, OH, London, UK, Minneapolis, MN, and Darien, CT before retiring to Dorset, VT. Tom is survived by his children Andrew M. Brass of Danbury, CT, Nancy E. Brass of Tucson, AZ, Robert S. Brass of Gardiner, NY, and Peter K. Brass and grandchildren Audrey S. Brass and Elsabeth Z. Brass of New Milford, CT. He was preceded in death by his wife Joy Brass who passed away November 15, 2019. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Edward C. Brass and Paul W. Brass. A celebration of life for Tom will be held November 8, 2023 at 11am at the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert. There are no visiting hours.
