Veda E. Rumney Stone, 100, a resident of Mussey Street in Rutland and formerly of Bonnet Street in Manchester passed away February 27, 2018 at Our House in Rutland, VT. Veda was born in Ryegate, VT on September 17, 1917 the daughter of the late Ernest and Adah (Austin) Rumney. She graduated from Bellows Falls Academy and then received her Bachelor Degree from Goddard College. Upon graduation Veda worked on the family farm with her husband Blanchard whom she married in 1940, taught school at Mount Laurel for special education students, played the organ at the First Congregational Church in Manchester for 27 years and was very instrumental getting the new organ at church. She took in seamstress work, taught piano and was involved with Meals on Wheels in Manchester. Veda enjoyed gardening, flowers, music and spending time with her family. She is survived by her children Fred Stone and his wife Sandra of Pawlet and Carol Howland and her husband Mel of Hobart, NY and five grandchildren and one great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her husband Blanchard Stone in 1993, brothers Austin, Ophea and Dr. Ira Rumney and sisters Sylvia and Olive.
