Virginia “Ginger” Baker died peacefully at home surrounded by family on February 22, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Ginger was born on October 23, 1947, in Hartford, CT, to Raymond Baker and Charlotte Sherman. She worked for The Tutorial Center for over 30 years before her retirement in 2021. During her tenure, she touched many students' lives and was often stopped in town by former students thanking her for the impact she had on their lives. She was known for her spunky humor and infectious personality.
In her free time, she enjoyed sewing, gardening, birdwatching, and spending time with her grandchildren and her dog.
She is predeceased by her parents, brothers Raymond Baker and Wayne Baker, as well as her husband William G. Vose. She is survived by her sister Sharon and her husband Don Briggs of Windsor, MA; Lloyd “Jimmy” Baker and his wife Linda of Slidell, Louisiana; sister Wendy Jean Peters and her husband John of Hamilton, OH; half-siblings Patricia (Chris) Hoskins, Bonnie (Brian) Jones, Michael Baker, and Jewel Baker (Mark Hall); son Tsion Avienu and his wife Stephanie of Bennington, VT; daughter Lynn Pitts; grandchildren Katelyn Hoard, Shauna Harrington Walker, Shelby Harrington, Jayden Buck, Keegan, Gianna, Lillian and Josiah Avienu; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and her faithful dog Jessie.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 2 PM at Sacred Heart St. Francis DeSales Church in Bennington. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and/or the Bennington County VNA & Hospice in Ginger’s honor.
