Walter A. Westhelle, 83, a resident of Whites Road, passed away December 10, 2018 at Bennington Health & Rehabilitation Center. Walter was born in Norwalk, CT on May 23, 1935, the son of the late Walter and Katherine Atchison Westhelle. He attended school in Stamford, graduating from Stamford High and earning his Bachelor Degree from the University of Vermont in Civil Engineering. Walter worked as a Civil Engineer for most of his life and took pride in his profession. He was a member of the United States Army core of engineers and a member of the Stamford Old Timers Athletic Association as a football player. He received this honor at the same time as his brothers, all were noted to all be on championship football teams. He was an avid skier and eventually retired in VT with his loving wife Dee. Walter was a hard working man, did not like to sit still for too long, and enjoyed having a Sunday nooner with his wife and friends. He was a Red Sox baseball fan and a New York Giant football fan. He especially enjoyed listening to the music of the "Rat Pack". Walter is survived by his sons, Walter E. Westhelle, and his wife, Lydia, of Trumbull, CT and Stefan Westhelle and his wife, Tiffany, of Rye Brook, NY, brothers Kent Westhelle and his wife, Beverley, of Savannah, Georgia and Robert Westhelle and his wife, Mary, of Waitsfield, VT and grandchildren Charlotte, Brody and Dylan Westhelle. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy "Dee" Field Westhelle who died December 18, 2008. Memorial services for Walter will be announced at a later date. There are no visiting hours.
