Walter L. "Bill" Barber, Jr. 75, a resident of Soule Street, passed away May 7, at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center. Bill was born in Bennington on Dec. 9, 1939 the son of Walter L. Sr. and Harriet Barber. He attended Bennington schools, graduating from Bennington High School in 1957 and Dean Jr. College in 1959. Along with his father, Bill owned and operated a car dealership in Bennington for many years. He was very active with the Bennington Car Show and received the distinguished Paul Harris Fellowship Award from Rotary International. Bill enjoyed collecting cars, riding and showing his antique Thunderbird and following NASCAR. He enjoyed reading Automotive News, listening to country music and cherished times spent with his family. Bill is survived by his wife of fifty two years, Mary (Peat) Barber, whom he married at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Bennington on April 20 1963; children, Elizabeth Ann Barber, and Amy Barber Thomas, and her husband, Gary, both of Bennington; sister, Ann Barber of Bennington; grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Coyne (Courtney), Corbin Barber and Griffin, Holden, Spencer, and Quincy Thomas; and his great-grandchildren, Haleigh and Marlie Coyne. At the request of the family funeral services will be private. Interment will be in the family lot in Park Lawn Cemetery. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Bill's memory may be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center Patient Resource Fund, c/o HANSON-WALBRIDGE SHEA FUNERAL HOME P.O.
