Walter Lackey

Walter R. Lackey (81) a resident of Rist Road in Wilmington passed away peacefully on Friday December 1, 2017 with his wife, Priscilla, at his side. He was born in Brattleboro to the late Raymond and Maxine ( Smith) Lackey on January 12, 1936. Walter attended school in Wilmington, graduated Wilmington High School in 1953, and attended Northampton Commercial College for two years. Walter enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1958 and was stationed at Ft. Dix , New Jersey. Walter married the former Priscilla Lumbra on February 7, 1959 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Wilmington. He worked as a bookkeeper and parts counter clerk at various automobile dealerships in the area, and retired from Auto Mall in Brattleboro in 1992. Walter was an outdoorsman beginning in his early years – he especially loved hunting and fishing. In his later years, he enjoyed playing cards, improvising music on his guitar, doing crossword puzzles, and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He leaves his wife of fifty-eight years (Priscilla Lackey of Wilmington), three children (Douglas Lackey of Wardsboro, Diane Marchionna of Spofford, NH, and Donna Lackey of Wilmington), five grandchildren (Amanda Lackey of Wardsboro, David Lackey of Wardsboro, Madeleine Marchionna of Burlington, Thomas Marchionna of Wilmington, and Katrina Aldrich of Wilmington), and two great-grandchildren (Jacob and Jazmyn Albanese of Wardsboro). He was predeceased by his sister Patricia (who died in infancy), his parents (Raymond and Maxine Lackey), grandparents (Ralph and Charlotte Smith) , an aunt (Dulcena Jacobs), and two cousins (Nelson Jacobs and Steven Jacobs). Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday December 16 at 11AM at the Riverview Cemetery with Reverend Marcia Dorey officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to Deerfield Valley Rescue or the Guy Hawkins Cancer Fund in care of Covey Allen & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363.
