Walter Ostrander, Jr.

Walter H. Ostrander, Jr. a resident of Shaftsbury, passed away October 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Walter was born in Bennington on March 22, 1938 the son of the late Walter H. and Ruth Thurber Ostrander, Jr. After attending Bennington schools, Walter enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Berlin Crisis. Upon being honorably discharged Walter worked in Maintenance for Cushman Furniture, General Interiors and Green Mountain Furniture all out of the same building for 51 years. Walter loved hunting and cherished times spent with his family. He is survived by his children James J. Ostrander of Shaftsbury, Walter H. Ostrander (Duffy), III and his wife Terri of North Bennington and Mary Ostrander-Crawford of Shaftsbury, grandchildren Olivia Smith and her husband Jason and Emily Ostrander and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Lois Ostrander whom he married October 30, 1964 in Bennington. Mrs. Ostrander passed away November 21, 2015. He was also preceded in death by his brother William J. Ostrander. At the request of the family there are no formal funeral services.
