Willis (Pete) G. Abbott, 90, a longtime resident of Dorset, who recently moved to the Equinox Terrace in Manchester, passed away January 29, 2016 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. Willis was born in Dorset, Vermont on August 30, 1925 the son of George Sanborn and Chloe (Edgerton) Abbott and attended local schools. Willis worked as a farmer and plumber at Stannard Plumbing, Inc. in Dorset for many years. He was a former Dorset Fire Department fire fighter and a former member of the Dorset Water Commission. Willis enjoyed bowling and was a member of a bowling club. He enjoyed square dancing, hunting, fishing, was an avid New York Yankee baseball fan, an avid gardener, enjoyed maple sugaring and spending time with his family. Willis is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Johnson of Manchester whom he married in Wells, Vermont; a son, Peter Abbott of Albany, NY; a daughter, Peg Lyon and her husband Jim of New Milford, CT; a son, Richard (Rick) Abbott and his wife Joyce of Lansdale, PA; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son James Abbott. A graveside memorial service will be held May 1, 2016 at 1pm in the family lot at Maple Hill Cemetery in Dorset. There are no visiting hours. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Willis' memory may be made to the Manchester Rescue Squad, Dorset Volunteer Fire Department or the United Church of Dorset and East Rupert, c/o Brewster & Shea Funeral Home P.O. Box 885 Manchester Center, Vermont. A graveside memorial service will be held May 1, 2016 at 1pm in the family lot at Maple Hill Cemetery in Dorset. There are no visiting hours.
