Joseph Thomas Dell, 80, a resident of Manchester Center, passed away August 4, 2017 at the Vermont Veterans Home in Bennington. Joseph was born in Port Washington, NY on May 8, 1937 the beloved son of the late Salvatore and Katherine (Rapp) Dell. He received his education in Port Washington schools, an active member of the golf and football teams, graduating from Port Washington High School. He earned his Bachelor Degree from Alfred University where he was Social Chairman of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity. Before being drafted in the United States Army, Joseph worked for French's Mustard. Upon discharge where he served his country in Germany at an Army Air Force Base working in telecommunications during the Berlin Wall Crisis, Joseph worked as an underwriter for AETNA Insurance Company, Garden City and then moved to Johnson and Higgins Brokerage House in Manhattan (International Dept.) where he became a Vice President. He loved to travel and did it worldwide working and living with his family for two years in Singapore. He worked with clients and correspondents in Europe, South America, Mexico and Australia developing many warm friendships. He was a very active member of the Northshire Newcomers, loved golf, playing cards, movies, travel was an avid reader and Yankee fan, and having lunch with the guys. He loved the oldies, classical music, opera and going to church. He cherished times spent with his family and friends hosting dinner parties and cooking in his home. He volunteered at Hildene at Christmas time for many years and was a Founding Supporter of the Army Historical Foundation in Arlington. Joseph is survived by his wife the former Louise Fasano of Manchester whom he married February 23, 1963 in Port Washington, sons Joseph Gerard Dell, Esq. and his wife Robyn, their children Joshua, Benjamin and Lily of Sands Point, NY, Maresa Elena Kuperschmid and her husband Jason of Canton, MA, their children Emily Lena and Brett and Simon Anthony Dell and his wife Sarah of Colchester, CT and their children Evan and Cecilia, sisters Patricia Dell Stumm of Boca Raton, Fl and Diana Olszewski of Ocean Isle Beach, SC. He was preceded in death by his brothers James John and John Charles. Joseph is remembered for his warm smile, friendliness and love for all. A mass of christian death and burial will be celebrated Saturday August 19, 2017 at 11am at St Paulâ€Âs Christ Our Savior Parish in Manchester. Interment will be private. There are no visiting hours.
